Expressive & Therapeutic Writing Workshops - Explore your true Self
I have always wanted more room to write, whether that be a room of my own, or room in my schedule, or in my busy mind. Whenever I make that happen and establish a writing practice, things change for the better. I’m less lonely, more clear-headed, more inspired. Sometimes external things in my life shift, too, as if there is magic at play. Can we really write our lives new? I believe we can.
There is research to back this up. The work of James Pennebaker, PhD, has been widely cited; he found that the benefits of writing about events and feelings include better health and lifestyle improvements, such as more success at work. Pennebaker also found that NOT telling our deepest stories can lead to more stress and illness.
Room to Write offers an emotional space we carve out for ourselves; inside, we give ourselves permission to write. Together we plumb our minds and find new layers of creativity. We reimagine who we are by exploring parts of ourselves we have lost touch with, by evaluating how we have been living, and by pondering alternative ways of being. We remember who we were by reviewing important events and stories from our past, and by connecting with younger aspects of ourselves. By doing this, we feel more whole.
The workshops and groups are not therapy (and they are not meant to be an alternative to therapy). However, they are intended to be therapeutic and enlivening. Offerings – such as Writing from the Self – have been created with the benefit of research and my experience as a psychotherapist and writer.
Individual consultation is most often done remotely, but we can arrange a local meeting if you're interested. I assist you in writing your story or stories, as well as help you encounter painful past experiences in a safe way that leads to growth and healing. I'm also available for one-on-one consultation in any of the areas offered at Room to Write. Read more about consultation here.
